xxx-action-webcard-710

About the 3.7cm Flak 37:

The 3.7cm Flak was a series of anti-aircraft cannons produced by Germany that saw widespread service in WWII. The cannon was fully automatic and effective against aircraft flying at altitudes up to 4,200 m. It was produced in both towed and self-propelled versions. The Germans at the time used their anti-aircraft pieces in ground support roles as well. The 37mm caliber guns were no exception. With Germany’s defeat, production ceased and the Flak 37 was replaced by the Bofors 40mm gun, and later by the 35mm anti-aircraft pieces produced in Switzerland.

The original 37 mm gun was developed by Rheinmetall in 1935 as the 3.7cm Flak 18. Later in the war, a newer simplified sighting system was developed and produced into the 3.7cm Flak 37.

March 2017 Hashtag Giveaway Rules & FAQ

$

hashtag-march

Brickmania has decided to run another hashtag social media giveaway event for the entire month! We often receive questions about how it works, and have decided to make a FAQ to answer general questions.

How do I enter the giveaway?

  • On Facebook, share one of our posts to your timeline and insert the hashtag #wunderwaffebrick into the post. Alternatively, make a post on your timeline/wall with the hashtag #wunderwaffebrick. Note: Unless your Facebook account is set to public, we cannot see a private post on your wall. Additionally, using the hashtag as a comment in one of our posts, does not count. Continued spamming of the hashtag in the same post can disqualify you.
  • On Twitter, tweet using the hashtag #wunderwaffebrick. Alternatively, retweet one of our posts and use the hashtag #wunderwaffebrick in your share.
  • On Instagram, make a new image or take a picture and use the hashtag #wunderwaffebrick. Note, unless your profile/image is public, the post cannot be seen by anyone but you. Keep in mind that spamming/using the hashtag as a comment on one of our images not only does not qualify for an entry, but repeated use can result in disqualification.

Can I enter more than once?

  • Yes, you can enter as many times as you like! It can raise the chance of becoming that week’s winner significantly.

Why does commenting on posts not count?

  • Something that we have learned from past events is that people often comment on our own posts through Facebook and Instagram using the hashtag. This does not count, and repeated use can result in complete disqualification.
  • The purpose of running a hashtag giveaway is to share our content to new people; commenting on Brickmania posts does not share our brand, products, name, etc

What do I get if I win? How will I know if I won?

  • Each week, Brickmania staff will compile a list of everyone who has entered to that point in the month (it is retroactive, so if you entered on January 3rd, later in the month, it will still count)
  • A winner will be selected for each week randomly from one of the three social media networks we are doing the giveaway on. The winner will be contacted through that platform’s Direct Messaging system (it is important that if you want to enter, make sure you have a way to directly communicate with us)
  • When the winner is selected, they will receive a kit (new or restock), which will be sent through the mail straight to their address!
  • Upon selecting a winner, Brickmania staff will produce one post per social media platform announcing the winner to the world!

*These rules can be changed at any time, and Brickmania reserves the right to change and tweak things if needed

About the Messerschmitt Me-262 Swallow:

The Messerschmitt Me 262 was the world’s first operational jet-powered fighter aircraft. Design work started before WWII began, but problems with engines, metallurgy and top-level interference kept the aircraft from operational status with the Luftwaffe until mid-1944. The Me 262 was faster and more heavily armed than the Allied fighter, including the British jet-powered Gloster Meteor. One of the most advanced aviation designs in operational use during WWII, the Me 262’s roles included light bomber, reconnaissance and experimental night fighter versions. Me 262 pilots claimed a total of 542 Allied kills, although higher claims are sometimes made.

The Allies countered its potential effectiveness in the air by attacking the aircraft on the ground and during takeoff and landing While German use of the aircraft ended with the close of WWII, a small number were operated by the Czechoslovak Air Force until 1951. Captured Me 262s were studied and flight tested by the major powers, and ultimately influenced the designs of a number of post-war aircraft such as the North American F-86 Sabre and Boeing B-47 Stratojet. A number of aircraft have survived on static display in museums, and there have also been several privately built flying reproductions that use the modern J-85 jet engine.

About the Battleship Yamato:

The IJN Yamato was the lead ship of the Yamato class of Imperial Japanese Navy WWII battleships. She and her sister ship, Musashi, were the heaviest battleships ever constructed, displacing 72,800 tons at full load and armed with nine 46cm (18.1 inch) 45 Caliber Type 94 main guns, which were the largest guns ever mounted on a warship. Neither ship survived the war. The Yamato was designed to counter the numerically superior battleship fleet of the United States. She was laid down in 1937 and formally commissioned a week after the Pearl Harbor attack in late 1941. Throughout 1942, she served as the flagship of the Japanese Combined Fleet. In June 1942 Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto directed the fleet from her bridge during the Battle of Midway, a disastrous defeat for Japan. Although present at the Battle of the Philippine Sea in June 1944, she played no part in the battle.

The only time Yamato fired her main guns at enemy surface targets was in October 1944, when she was sent to engage American forces invading the Philippines during the Battle of Leyte Gulf. On the verge of success, the Japanese forces turned back, believing they were engaging an entire US carrier fleet. In reality it was just a light escort carrier group that was all that stood between the battleship and the vulnerable troop transports. On April 7 1945, she was sunk by American carrier-based bombers and torpedo bombers with the loss of most of her crew.

Specifications:

  • Class and type: Yamato-class battleship
  • Displacement: 65,027 tons; 71,659 tons (full load)

New Release: Bench Vise – The Workshop Collection

$
0
0

521-Action-Webcard-710

A vise is a mechanical apparatus used to secure an object to allow work to be performed on it. Vises have two parallel jaws, one fixed and the other movable, threaded in and out by a screw and lever. There are multiple variants of vises for different tasks. Woodworking vises are attached to a workbench, typically flush with its work surface. Their jaws are made of wood or metal, (the latter usually faced with wood), called cheeks, to avoid marring the work. The movable jaw may include a retractable dog to hold work against a bench dog.

A workbench is a sturdy table at which manual work is done. They range from simple flat surfaces to very complex designs that may be considered tools in themselves. Workbenches vary in size from tiny jewelers benches to the huge benches used by staircase makers. Almost all workbenches are rectangular in shape, often using the surface, corners and edges as flat/square and dimension standards.

An engineer’s vise, also known as a metalworking vise or machinists vise, is used to clamp metal instead of wood. It is used to hold metal when filing or cutting. It is sometimes made of cast steel or malleable cast iron, but most are made of cast iron. Some vises have a cast iron body but a steel channel bar. An engineer’s vise is bolted onto the top surface of a workbench, with the face of the fixed jaws just forward of its front edge. Additional variants of a vise are machine, vacuum, pipe, clamp-on, or a combination.

This kit has the following features:

  • Practical swiveling action
  • Working clamp for maximum power
  • Bench included
  • 1/35 scale to match other Brickmania models
  • Designed by Yitzy Kasowitz
  • Includes 19 LEGO® elements & BrickArms

All Brickmania model kits are made of new-condition LEGO bricks. This model comes disassembled and includes complete printed building instructions and comes packaged in a sealed box. This is a limited edition kit and production may be discontinued at any time.

XXX-Action-Webcard-710

About the V-1 Flying Bomb:

The V-1 Flying Bomb was an early cruise missile and the first to use a pulsejet for power. It was developed at Peenemünde Army Research Center by the German Luftwaffe during WWII. Due to its limited range, the thousands of V-1 missiles launched into England were fired from launch facilities along the French and Dutch coasts. At its peak, more than one hundred V-1s a day were fired at Southeast England. A total of 9,521 were fired, decreasing in number until the last V-1 site in range of Britain was overrun by allied forces in October 1944.

As part of Operation Crossbow, the British operated an arrangement of air defenses including anti-aircraft guns and fighter aircraft, to intercept the bombs before they reached their targets. During this time, launch sites and underground V-1 storage depots were targets of strategic bombing.

About the X-Craft British Minisub:

The X-Craft was a WWII midget submarine class built for the Royal Navy during 1943-1944. Known individually as X-Craft, the vessels were designed to be towed to their intended area of operations by a full-size ‘mother’ submarine with a passage crew on board.  Once the attack was over, the X-Craft would rendezvous with the towing submarine and then be towed home. Range was limited primarily by the endurance and determination of their crews, but was thought to be up to 14 days in the craft or 1,500 miles.

This specific variant was deployed during September 1943’s Operation Source to neutralize the heavy German warships based in Northern Norway. Six X-craft were used, but only two successfully laid charges; the rest were lost, scuttled or returned to base. This was the only multiple X-craft attack. X-Craft made additional attacks on German targets in Norway and helped survey the beaches for the Allied landings at Normandy.  The remains of two XT-class craft are present on the beach at Aberlady Bay in East Lothian, Scotland. One X24 is available to view at the Royal Navy Submarine Museum, Gosport in the United Kingdom.
